All of the people, who worked on this movie did tremendous job. I mean making this desert setting so fascinating and unique, making constant action engaiging, having sense and not noisy, making this movie have legit emotional scenes, despite having pretty simple (in a good way) plot it's really hard. And all of that also looks and sounds beautiful.

This is both a soft-reboot and a sequel to the old movies, so watched the old movieswon't help you really. You can just wait to the Furiosa movie in streaming or seen the old movies if you are curious,

You cried for Immortan Joe, because he is the hero of the movie. Why and how? Let's look at his agenda. He is the only one in the film, who is trying to preserve and rebuild society. His goal is simple, and selfless. He is attempting to produce healthy babies, and thus continue the human race. Furiosa destroyed his plan, with the aid of Max. As Joe raised his gun at the war rig, which carried his wives - what did he do? Seeing his most favored wife, who was pregnant and acting as a human shield, he lowered his gun...and his eyes looked sad. His eyes and demonstrated powerlessness...were communicating love. His favorite wife, knew then...and previously...that he loved her. She said so, "I'm his favorite!" Was Joe really evil, or doing what was necessary to save the human race? Was he being sexist and a slaver, or a savior? Should these women have been running away, or volunteering to assist him...for the greater good of all? Were his wives Eves to his Adam - and the Beauties to his Beast? Immortan Joe's story, is that of every man - being the hunter/gatherer and protector for his woman - his wives in this case, amid propagating the human race. So, was Furiosa...the snake in Eden...or Lilith - Google that name, Lilith? A woman instinctively desires men, who compete for resources in order to build a better nest for her...to have children...and raise those children...under the very best conditions. She picks the male who can supply the better nest and the most quality resources. Well, what happened in this story? Taking on a masculine role, hence Lesbian connotations follow, Furiosa...promised the wives a better nest...only to find dirt. The metaphor here...is that you can't continue the human race without Alpha Males to impregnate Alpha Females...or such women will be left unfertilized...and thereby infertile and barren - as in, barren dirt. The Green Place is that dirt...as it is only an idea of paradise. A world without men, is not a firm and real reality. Men move the world for women. They build empires, fight wars, build societies, provide money, food, security, and build homes, etc. Immortan Joe was the hero, thus why you cried when his dream for a better future...and a better world for all - died. You were instinctively rooting for him to succeed in his plan. Immortan Joe is also the victim, as his home was plundered and he was ultimately betrayed and assassinated...for trying to rescue his kidnapped wives. It's a Greek Tragedy, Shakespearean, and Biblical. RIP, Immortan Joe (((.

Furiosa is good too but it overdoes in terms of story and seriousness.

Dear Catherine, so glad you liked it. I was a bit like you at first, pensive, as a fan of he original Mel Gibson movies, but I was swept in the sheer battle frenzy of it all, and the beautiful scenery/cinematography, and the sympathetic or larger than life characters!!

It looks like you watched the Disney+ version of the film, in which case it was a bit less R-rated than the theatrical release was. Disney CGI'd in some extra fire and shadows to conceal the most explicit nudity in the naked fight scene and the strip club.

The first Mad Max is cool but kinda boring at times. But it's tragic. The 2nd AKA The Road Worrior is probably the best. You can skip the first one and go straight to the 2nd because it back fills in what happened in the first one.

I should warn you that furiosa is somehow even more bleak and brutal than this, but more whimsical and verbal too. If you had watched it first, then every moment in this film would have felt even more Intense. Fury road was a storytelling exercise for George miller, in the way he strives for simplicity in maximalism. Every frame was storyboarded, thats why if you stop at any moment in the film, it would look like a screensaver. 6 oscars under its belt.

Immortan Joe is the same actor who played main bad guy in the first one

I just noticed that Catherine looks a lot like the actress, Mariska Hargitay before she joined "Law & Order: SVU". Before that show, she was on the TV medical drama "E.R." (S04) and had long dark hair just like Catherine. The resemblance is uncanny.

Imortan Joe has at least 2 boys. The big guy and that small on in the chair. They both have issues. Big one is nit smart. Small one is smart but weak. Joe wants a successor. That why he has the perfect women to breed with so he can have a healthy offspring to succeed him

This film has one of the coolest teaser trailers from Comic-Con. It included a cover song of Cat Stevens "Wild World" done by Junkie XL.

The visual world and style of Valerian comics was a great deal of inspirational source, from the start, for people who worked on the original Star Wars. It's almost plagiarism. Look for it.

Another post-apocalyptic film that takes place in Australia is "These Final Hours" (2013). It takes place 10 minutes after an Asteroid hits the earth. The last remaining survivors are in Perth, Australia while a huge unstoppable wall of fire is slowing encircling the earth.

Doof warrior (the guitarist) isn’t just there for aesthetic, he actually uses the guitar to relay to everyone Immortan Joes orders during battle. The only time he stops playing is when they’ve stopped moving.

The movies take place in Australia, where Max was a cop before society collapsed. The "Salt" they refer to is the Pacific Ocean, dried up.

Catherine, great reaction! Definitely see "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga"! I saw it twice, with my daughter. It's awesome! The original Trilogy is good too. The Second one, "Mad Max", is an improvement on the 1st. I really liked the 3rd "Thunderdome" movie, but it's a bit more "Hollywood" than the first two. Get into this franchise, it's great (albeit, violent and somewhat doom-y).

Did you notice the lava Bending? It's earth bending they heat up the rock into lava and bends it, just like how water benders can cool the water into ice bending

This is actually a lot like "darkman" a anti hero movie starring Liam Neeson from ..ages ago.

I had the opposite experience my first time with this movie; everything seemed so clear, and direct to the point with VISUAL STORYTELLING. It felt like such a fresh air within so many movies out there having to waste so much time telling the viewer what the movie is about like a short attention span toddler that only pays attentions to shaky camera, and and shiny lights to compensate for bad scripts.

Hayden actually got in a bacta tank and did breathing exercises with a marine. His dedication is CRAZY.

The version of Deadpool in X-Men Origins (played by Ryan Reynolds) was a sad attempt to introduce Deadpool. In the old comic books Deadpool was pretty much the character in this movie minus a few abilities the comic version had. But the mouth, yep that was Deadpool comic book version pretty much spot on. Reynolds hated the "Origins" version and wanted to right the ship so to speak. The original writers of the Deadpool comic series was reaching to extend sales to adults, and even the comic books had parental guidance warnings on them back in the day. I was drawn to the comics in their release year of 1990 and collected all 4 volumes as well as sub-volumes. Only comic books I ever collected and still have them all today.

If you do decide to watch the old ones you'll get a slightly more complete timeline as to how society crumbled and we ended up with these car war cults 😁 Mad Max 1979 is a bit rough, it's low budget and dirty. Road Warrior is where it gets really good and Thunderdome is strange but fun and different.

This movie is an absolute timeless masterpiece for the ages.......

At least you guys today have a better selection of 'old' stuff to choose from and a much better way to approach that endeavor. If I wanted to explore past films it was: Technicolor Epics, B&W Classics, and well, that was it.

This film is a story getting retold as legend by people of the Mad Max universe. Max was once a policeman now a road warrior. Trying to do right in a world of evil and barrenness. He refuses to help at the begining of the film because he's broken from all the innocent that died under his protection over the many years he's survived.

This movie inspired wasteland… a event held every year out west where people cosplay and build wild vehicles and get together… their are several documentaries on UA-cam about it you should check them out
